Scholarship is based on inquiry, or asking questions, so it helps to think of your topic in the form of a question you want to investigate and answer in your paper. All your papers need a thesis statement that makes an argument, placed at the beginning of the paper. Then, the rest of the paper needs to focus on arguing why the thesis is true.<\/p>\n\n

You're expected to do an analysis, not just describe what you read. Analysis involves synthesizing information from your sources to create arguments. You arguments should also be structured well. A research paper is different than the typical 5 paragraph essay.<\/p>\n\n
