Students receive the Incident Notification<\/strong><\/em>. Sent via email, this will outline the concerns of potential academic misconduct. Evidence is often attached. Step 2:<\/p>\n\n
If the instructor, or person reporting the incident, feel there is enough evidence or suspicion of academic misconduct, the student will receive the Allegation of Academic Misconduct, <\/strong><\/em>from the Relevant Administrator who has taken over the case. Step 3: <\/p>\n\n
The Relevant Administrator will review all the evidence and information and make a final decision. If there is a finding of academic misconduct, the student will receive the Final Notice of Penalty<\/em><\/strong>. This email will outline the type of academic misconduct and the penalties to be imposed.<\/p>\n\n

Step 4:<\/p>\n\n
If a student feels there are no grounds for the allegation, or feel the penalty is too harsh, they have the option to submit a Petition to an Allegation or Penalty of Academic Misconduct<\/strong><\/em>. This step is optional and has deadlines of when a student must submit a petition.<\/p>\n\n

Falsification involves creating fake or altered documents to be used to gain an unfair advantage. This can include assignments, supporting documents for petitions or deferral requests, like a doctor's note.<\/p>\n\n
Misrepresentation<\/h3>\n\n
Misrepresentation is not being truthful through the exaggeration or falsification of information or circumstances to gain an unfair academic advantage. Common for a second incident, a student may face an 'F' in the course. This means the student may have to repeat the course if it's required for their program, or take another course to make up for the lost credit. The most serious of penalties is expulsion from Laurier. A student who faces expulsion will lose credit and not be eligible to return to their studies at Laurier.
