What is Panopto?<\/h2>\n\n
Panopto is an online video creation tool that Laurier Online Learning subscribes to. It allows you to easily create, store and embed videos online.<\/p>\n\n

There are two methods of accessing Laurier's Panopto subscription:<\/p>\n\n

Panopto web site<\/a> \n\n\t

Use your standard Laurier login <\/li>\n\t\t
All your content will be kept here; other people can only see it if you have shared it with everyone. Otherwise you can see your content but others logged into Panopto can't.<\/li>\n\t\t
Create and store content within My Folder

Within MyLearningSpace<\/a>\n\t
\n\t\t
Access Panopto from within a MyLS course.<\/li>\n\t\t
All instruction librarians have access to the Library Test Site course which has Panopto. In this course, go to Contents, then click to open the Panopto folder. Create, store and organize videos here.<\/li>\n\t\t
Panopto isn't included in MyLS courses by default, but you can add it.\n\t\t

Email myls@wlu.ca to request Panopto in a course. Let them know which course.<\/li>\n\t\t\t

Important note: these two access methods are not interchangeable. This video assumes you are creating a video on the Panopto web site. If you are using Panopto in MyLearningSpace, first go to your Panopto folder (Content--Panopto), then click Create.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t

The automatically generated titles are horrible. But it's worth editing them, since chapters let people see what is in the video and jump to specific sections.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/li>\n\t\t

An efficient workflow is to take careful note of exactly when (minute:second) each Chapter starts when you review the video, then edit the Contents\/Chapters all at once.<\/p>\n\t\t<\/li>\n\t<\/ul>\n\t<\/li>\n\t

If sharing your screen, make it large enough so people can see it easily. This will be larger than you think in most cases.<\/li>\n\t
If sharing your browser, get rid of distracting extras (e.g. bookmarks bar, extra tabs, etc.).<\/li>\n\t
If using PowerPoint, don't put too much on one screen. Use large clear fonts and graphics.<\/li>\n\t
Don't convey any information by using colour on its own (e.g. if you look at the red line, then the blue line...).<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
Narration<\/h2>\n\n

Use a good microphone.<\/li>\n\t
Avoid background noise; a headset microphone can help with this.<\/li>\n\t
Speak slowly and clearly.<\/li>\n\t

Don't assume everyone can see or hear; someone who is only seeing or only listening to the video should get the same information as someone who can see and listen.<\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n
