To help with this, add a heading for any text you add and for each object you embed in the column. To add a heading, click Add Content, then choose Text. Type your title\/heading, and highlight it. From the Normal dropdown menu in the editing toolbar, choose Heading 2. Save. It's hard to get good screenshot resolution for images. What works best: increase text\/monitor\/browser size to 150% to make everything bigger first.Then the screenshots are larger and clearer.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n<\/ul>\n\n

Navigation for screen reading software works well. If you are using a screen reader, the first slide has instructions on how to navigate through the slides. Slides are announced as 'slide 1 of 7', etc.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
For best accessibility, add a table of contents to your course presentation. This consists of adding a title for each slide, which is announced by the screen reading software. This makes it easier to know what the content of each slide is while navigating, without having to read the whole slide. Remember to describe anything in text that you are presenting in your image\/graphic. Don\u2019t assume people will be able to see the graphic. It should be another version of what you say, and not present different information.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t

If you are using an image of text, make sure you put that text into your alt text or description; otherwise someone using screen reading software won't be able to read it.<\/li>\n\t
Give your hotspots meaningful titles. Otherwise screen reading software identifies them as 'hotspot button 1', 'hotspot button 2', etc which is not useful (especially in combination with the random hotspot reading order).<\/li>\n\t
Because of the accessibility limitations, it is strongly recommended<\/strong> that you provide an alternate text version with this content type. Label:<\/strong> useful as a call-out for extra information (e.g. definitions, extra tips). When label is clicked, text is displayed. To make your label clearly visible, under Go On to Click menu (at bottom), check Visualize box. This adds a border so it looks clickable. In this area, you can also choose to do an action if clicked (e.g. go to a certain point in the video).<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t
Link:<\/strong> you can add a link to an outside web site, e.g. to take students to extra resources or information. Need to add link text plus url. It shows up as a text box. Under Visuals menu (at bottom) you can customize the background colour and shadow so it is more visible.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t
True\/false:<\/strong> single question with true\/false answer. Under the Behavioral Settings menu, you can show various buttons (e.g. Retry and Show Solution), and can add feedback on right and wrong answers. Under Adaptivity menu, you can have the viewer do something if the answer is wrong or right, e.g. if it is wrong take the viewer back to the part of the video that discusses whatever the question asked about so they have to watch it again.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t
Multiple choice: <\/strong>single multiple choice question. Ability to give tips and feedback for each answer option. Similar options under Behavioral Settings and Adaptivity as True\/False above. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t
Navigation hotspot:<\/strong> text box that if clicked takes you somewhere. Could be used for branching (e.g. if you want this option click here, if that option click there), or to give an option to skip over some content if they already know it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t\t
Bookmarks:<\/strong> these are added at the bottom, in the player. Go to the place in the video where you want the bookmark and press the bookmark icon in the bottom player bar. You\u2019ll need to add text so people know what the bookmark is (e.g. step 1, step 2, summary). Once added, people can click to jump to that bookmark. Useful as a table of contents. Bookmarks show up as a dotted vertical line on the player bar, and if you hover over it with your mouse the bookmark title shows up. You can click on the bar in the player to jump to that spot. Unfortunately this is not very obvious so students might miss it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t<\/ul>\n\t<\/li>\n\t
Poster vs button:<\/strong> this is an option for several elements. It depends how much attention you want to draw to it. Poster is much more obvious (takes up the whole screen). Button is small, better for supplemental material.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t
Copyright and license information:<\/strong> remember to add this for each of your interactive elements in its Metadata area.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/li>\n\t

If you don't have captions, you can create them using a tool like Amara<\/a>. If you are recording in Zoom, you should get a caption file with your recording (if this doesn't happen see Automatic captions for Zoom recordings<\/a> for instructions).<\/p>\n\n
For H5P you will need a caption file in .vtt format, which you get from Zoom or Amara. To upload this file to H5P, click on Text Tracks under the video upload area. Change Track label to Captions, and choose Captions from the Type of Text Track dropdown menu.
