H5P is a tool that allows you to easily create interactive learning objects in HTML5 without any technical knowledge. It is opensource, created by a non-profit educational organization in Norway, and housed on local Laurier servers.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

Interactive H5P learning objects can be used to present information to students in a visually appealing way, to let students test their knowledge, or to help students practice skills online. They can be used in online courses, online textbooks, flipped classrooms, or as activities within in-person classes.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

You can share your H5P learning objects so others can see, use, or edit them, depending on the license and permissions you assign. H5P tracks the accessibility of their content types for people with disabilities<\/a><\/span><\/span><\/span>. Laurier has only implemented content types that H5P has indicated are accessible.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

However, even if a content type is accessible on the H5P list t<\/span><\/span><\/span>he content you create also needs to be accessible. For example, if showing something visually, remember to describe it in text too. Add alt text to images. If using audio, remember to provide a text transcript or captions.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

For best accessibility provide an alternate text version on the same web page.   Some content types (course presentation, column, interactive book) have a design template so you can easily create something with a Laurier look and feel.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

  1. Edit your learning object.<\/strong> Edit the content on slides you use. Clone a slide to create a copy you can edit with the same formatting. Delete any slides you don\u2019t use, using the bottom menu underneath the course presentation.     You can copy and edit any H5P learning object in the Laurier H5P Catalogue. Click the Reuse button underneath the template. Click Download. In the top navigation bar on the page, click Create. Click on Upload in the dark grey bar above the content type. You now have a new learning object that is a copy of the old, and can edit it.<\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n
    You can also copy and paste elements from within learning objects, such as a quiz or image on a course presentation slide or in a column. To do this, click on the element you want to copy, then click on Copy in the popup menu. <\/span><\/span><\/span>Go to the slide you want to paste the element onto, then click Paste in the top menu bar. <\/span><\/span><\/span><\/p>\n\n

    H5P has developed a tutorial and example for every content type. To view these, click Create, then click on a content type. Above the title field you will see links to the tutorial and example. If you don't, you can find them on the H5P.org site's Tutorials for authors page<\/a>.

    Click on the Embed button underneath your learning object on the H5P web site. Copy the embed code in the box that pops up (starts with iframe src=). <\/span><\/span><\/span>You can paste this code into any web site that accepts iframes.     You make any changes\/edits on the H5P server.     Any edits you make on the H5P server are immediately live as soon as you Save. They will automatically show up everywhere you have embedded the learning object.
